A gentleman working for Mattel asked me if I could share this on the forum - perhaps one of our polyglot forum members could win this competition?
Mattel wrote:
I work for Mattel, the owners of Scrabble.
As a one-off, as part of our celebrations for the 60th Anniversary of
Scrabble in 2008, we're thinking of running a one day polyglot Scrabble tournament
where you can play Scrabble in a number of languages at the same time.
It's likely to be staged in Spain in October or November. There will be a
prize to the winner of approx. US $2000 and travel and accommodation expenses will be paid.
We're working on the details of the game at the moment but would like to recruit competitors
who speak a number of languages. We will then organise national competitions.
If you are interested in taking part please email me on scrabbleuk@mattel.com with your contact details,
your nationality and if different, a note of the country that you would want to represent.
Thank you
Philip Nelkon

Professor Arguelles would destroy this competition.

I would love to, but I fear that I'm not enough of a polyglot to have a chance.
And I guess non-roman writing systems aren't allowed…

Actually, non-Roman writing systems might be allowed--I've seen official Scrabble sets in Hebrew and Russian.
