Fascinating if true. He must be a savant to learn complex languages in a small amount of time.

Is there a common tendency for some people to claim to speak another language well, even when they cannot?

An acquaintance always claimed to speak French, I always had my doubts. When she did an interview on French television, it was a disaster, just as I had imagined. Is there a name for this false sense of fluency?

Some people get to the intermediate level and they think they are fluent because they can express themselves and talk about everyday things. I'm at the intermediate level in French and I can express myself reasonably well, but there is no way I would even think about doing an interview in French right now with native speakers. I know I would get lost so fast and embarrass myself. By any chance do you have the video of your friend's interview?
