I wrote a book on my own experiences in learning nine languages inlcuding Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese. The book is autobiographical and also offers advice on learner attitudes and effective learning methods. The book is called The Linguist, A Personal Guide to Language Learning. It has been translated into 6 languages.
I also developed a website based on my experience and modern MP3 and e-text technology. www.thelinguist.com. At the present time we only offer content in English. In the new year we will offer a new version with many more languages. If anyone is interested in getting on to explore, free of charge, please click on "contact us" on the webpage to send me an email and I will happily give out a coupon number for free access.
Our system is content based and has a unique vocabulary learning system. It has been well received by learners in 20 countries. I would be interested in receiving comments on both the book and the website.

Welcome to the forum, Steve.
I am afraid URL dropping is not permitted even for such a fine polygot. Actually, we already have a discussion of your website in this thread.
I moved your post to the Member Profiles room to limit redundancy. If you wish to discuss your website please use the other thread. Thanks.

Welcome Steve/Zhuangzi!
I bought your book in a bookstore in Fuzhou and did enjoy reading your book. I do concur with most of your strategies for learning different languages. You were very lucky to come from a family where you could learn several languages at home, and have chosen a profession which allows you to go all around the world.
I admire your constant efforts to learn new languages throughout your life. How is your Cantonese coming along? Are you fluent now? I got the impression from your book that you are still learning. I'm sure it's also helpful to live in Vancouver where such a large Chinese community exists.
It's great to see you on this site! Looking forward to your posts and your insight.

I'm curious about how you chose your ID. Zhuangzi - that's a famous philosopher/educationist/politician back in the Zhan-Guo period, isn't it? How do you think of his philosophy and literature?
I actually wonder how many people can read ancient Chinese, since I find those difficult sometimes myself.
