French Did Unit 101 of Assimil French. ~30 minutes, between listening to it multiple times and reading the French and translation. German Filled one side of a sheet of paper with words, using Iversen's word list method. Around 50 total words, I think. ~30 minutes. Morning French Reread Unit 101 of Assimil French twice. ~10 minutes. Evening French Reread Units 98, 99, 100, 101. Did passive wave of Unit 102, then listened to it 3 more times (without using text). ~1 hour. German Reviewed some vocabulary in Anki. ~10 minutes. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Morning, Before first class German Filled half a sheet with words, Iversen method. ~15 minutes, 30 or so words. I believe I'm going to start reviewing my word lists for 3 or 4 days in a row, and then moving the words over to Anki, my SRS application of choice. I've found it's much easier for me to initially memorize words by using the word list method, rather than dumping them directly into Anki. On the other hand, now that I've done quite a few word lists, it's becoming increasingly cumbersome to review them, particularly when I know most of the words, but there are still a few troublesome words in each list. I think using the word lists for the initial memorization and then moving them to Anki will be a more efficient use of my time. Afternoon / Evening German Filled a little under one half of a sheet with words. ~20 minutes. As with all of the other "word list" entries in my log thus far, I was using Sarah Fagan's Using German Vocabulary. French Reread Units 101, 102, and 22. With Unit 22, I was hoping to do some active wave work, but bedtime arrived, and so I settled with a quick read through it. Morning (during work) As I work at the reference desk in the library, when I'm not actively helping people, I can do pretty much what I want. So, work is actually a wonderful time for language study for me. So: German Worked on word lists for about an hour and a half, both reviewing lists from previous days, and compiling new ones. I think I ended up filling about a sheet and a half, perhaps 2 sheets. Still using Using German Vocabulary. ~1.5 hours. Afternoon French While doing the dishes, I listened to Units 99 and 100 of French Assimil twice each; I listened to Unit 101 once. I'd planned on listening to 101 twice, as well as 102, but the dishes were done before the lessons. :-) ~10 minutes. Evening Assorted (Mostly German, a bit of French, and a very small amount of Russian) I got caught up on my Anki reviews; I'd missed a few days, and so had a sizeable backlog to work through. ~1 hour. French Read out loud Units 99, 100, 101, and 102 from Assimil French. ~20 minutes. German Listened to 15 minutes or so of German via dradio.de. ~15 minutes. Afternoon French Assimil French with Ease - Listened to Units 99, 100, 101, 102. ~10 minutes. Did active wave of Unit 5; 10 minutes. Russian Assimil Russisch ohne Mühe - Listened to Units 1-6, 8. 1-6 was review, as I've listened to them before, as well as done them in the book. I haven't done 8 yet, so while I'm familiar with the words in it, I don't yet know what they actually mean. ~15 minutes. Evening French Assimil French with Ease - Listened to Units 99-102 again. Also moved on to Unit 103. I listened to it 6 or 7 times; I haven't yet read the lesson, but understood perhaps half of it. Evening German Reviewed a bunch of word lists that I made about a month ago. They were the first word lists I made using Iversen's method, and I was pleasantly surprised at how many of the words I still remember. ~20 minutes. I'm going to work through a page or two of Der rettende Weg, a German book I'm reading, so as a reminder to myself: update this entry tomorrow to reflect how many pages were done, and how long it took. French Assimil French with Ease - Reread Units 97-103. ~20 minutes. I was able to listen to Unit 99 once earlier in the day, but I was rather busy helping family members with cleaning out a garage, so I ended up not being able to focus very much on listening. After missing about half of what was said in Unit 99, I decided to give it up for the time being. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Afternoon French Assimil French with Ease - Did the active wave for Lesson 6; also dropped back and ran through the active wave for Lesson 5 again. ~10 minutes. German Read one of the Top Thema articles at Deutsche Welle (Berlusconi und die Liebe), looking up any unknown words. I'll use the words culled from the reading later in making Iversen-style word lists. I also listened to the audio for the article. ~15 minutes. Evening German Filled 1 and 3/4 sheets with German words from Using German Vocabulary. ~1 hour. French Assimil French with Ease - Listened to Lessons 30-38, 2-3 times each. I'm not sure of the exact time, so I'm going to round off: ~1 hour. Russian Russian for Beginners - Read through Lessons 2 and 3. I've covered the material before, but Russian has been on the backburner for quite some time, so it was a good refresher. ~10 minutes. Now that I'm nearing the end of the passive wave with Assimil French with Ease, I've decided to begin again on Russian, using both my English-based materials (Russian for Beginners, New Penguin Russian Course), as well as my copy of Russisch ohne Mühe.
