I have begun using LingQ to study Chinese.

It is a good way to keep track of my time spent listening. This means I have moved on from using only Assimil. I create a lingq for every word. This will give me a good indication of how many words I have studied. I have over 500 Chinese lingqs now. I think I created a few at the start of August and then I really began using LingQ from the second-half of August.

My "Last Month" (the last 30 days) statistics are as follows:
  • LingQ's Created: 485
  • Hours of Listening: 17.1
  • Words of Reading: 34,183
  • Words of Writing: 116
If you are a member at LingQ, you will be able to see these statistics (the current stats only) for yourself. Just use this link if you like: My Profile at LingQ. You will have to change the selector to see the time period you are interested in (not that anybody would be interested in my learning stats).

Right now, I have 31 active assignments for Chinese. I like to read each one once and listen to it a few times. If I listen to each assignment 5 times, it is about 1.1 hours of listening. The reading and changing assignments takes more time as well. Creating LingQs takes time too. Importing new content takes a lot of time too.

I might listen to a Chinese podcast as well. I'm not sure how often I'll do that. But I've tried it and it feels good to have the extra input.

Update:

I have stopped using LingQ to study Chinese.

From the system, it is impossible to tell exactly when I last saved a lingq or updated the counters for an assignment (which are now called lessons). But I think it was probably by the middle of October or earlier. At that point I came to the understanding that studying a language can have serious repercussions on the outcome. Please see my next log to find out what I am doing now.

My final statistics for Chinese are as follows:
  • Known Words: 0
  • LingQ's Created: 574
  • LingQ's Learned: 0
  • Hours of Listening: 29.3
  • Words of Reading: 54,015
  • Words of Writing: 215
  • Hours of Speaking: 0

With my new method, I have done more listening in the last week than I did in 2 months of using LingQ.
