I am an american girl/young woman who would like to learn how to read, write, and speak icelandic. I am under the age of 18 if this helps.

I am clueless on how to start out, i don't have the money to buy programs and my school doesn't offer icelandic as a language to learn. I am interested in e-pals [emailing native speakers near my age]

If anyone can help with programs, techniques[sp?], and/or any other ways to help learn this language i would be very greatfull.

Thank you for reading.

Here is a website that has a free online icelandic course. It might be a good
place to start. There's also Teach Yourself Icelandic, which is a course that is relatively inexpensive.   You may also
want to check your library, they may have some icelandic books/tapes available (or be able to get them through
interlibrary loan).

Good Luck :)

Does anyone know if there is a language school in Reykjavik? Icelandic is on my list of must learn one day and I would love to do an immersion there. I have done some google searches but so far haven't found anything.

You could also try listening to songs sung in Icelandic, for example Bjork has recorded a whole jazz album in that language (and in my opinion it's her best album). :) Then buy a good dictionary, learn some grammar and start increasing your vocabulary translating the song lyrics! How about that?
