I'm not good enough at computers to the degree that Mnemosyne creators expect their average users to be. I'm used to dealing with everything in English and not technical jargon.

Anyway, I attempted to import the Esperanto files that take vocabulary for 750 words on the Lernu.net site that were uploaded to the Mnemosyne website. I downloaded the file and unzipped the package. I open Mnemosyne, go to File>>Import, and then choose the file that I downloaded and unzipped. There is only one option for categories <default> so I leave that the same.

When I try to import the file, I get a message that says Mnemosyne was unable to parse the xml file, and then a bunch of technical jargon that is not really anything I can make sense of.

Can anyone who knows about this program help me to get this vocabulary loaded?

Mnemosyne allows different input formats, but you must indicate which one you provide. The default one is XML. Is it possible that this is not a XML format file? The download page for your wordlist might provide a clue what format it is.

I took a look at this, and although the files have XML extensions, they're really not XML files. If you import the file as "text with tab separated Q/A" instead of "XML", it should work just fine.
