New log, new languages, new TACtics.

**** UPDATE ON PAGE 11****

Focus: Written and spoken production.

Reasoning: I can understand my target languages reasonably well from a beginners perspective (Spanish more so than German), and passive (vocab) acquisition has yet to be a problem for me but my expression understandably lags behind. I would like to work towards expressing myself with more and more ‘dignity’ as I progress in all my linguistic endeavours.

Spanish (Castellan): Current Level : Beginner
1.     Broad Goal
                    - To attain a B2 level by the end of 2009
2.     Lesser Goals
                    - To attain functional tourist, basic Spanish by the end of 2008
                    - Attain atleast an A2 level by June 2009
                    - To be able to read a simple book without need of dictionary by
                      en d 2009
3.     TACtics
                    - Finish Assimil l'espagnol sans peine
                    - Work through the Pimsleur Spanish series, I,II,III, Plus
                    - Assorted textbooks
                    - Finish all the units on busuu.com and use it for corrections and
                      co nver sation.
                    - Start posting in the multi-lingual lounge
                    - Start posting on lang-8

German: Current Level: For all intents and purposes Complete Beginner
1.     Broad Goal
                    - Conversational (not technical) by the end 2009
2.     Lesser Goals
                    - Have a solid foundation in German grammar/vocab so as to build on
                      it in 2010
3.     TACtics
                    - Assimil Allemand Sans Piene
                    - Pimsleur
                    - Assorted Text Books
                    - Assorted Websites (busuu.com, lang-8, deutscher weller etc.)
                    - German friends for correspondance.
                    - Start posting in the multi-lingual lounge

French: Current Level: Your average B2
1.     Broad Goal
                    - C1 level by june, hopefully C2 later on.
                    - Sit the DALF C1 before I have to go back to Australia.

2.     Lesser goals
                    - Increase my written and spoken fluency by the weeding out errors.
                    - Attain an educated level of expression.
                    - While I think about it, improve my handwriting in all it's languages.

3.     TACtics
                    - Practice, Practice, and more practice.
                    - Buy (dl and print)and work my way through the C1/C2 practice books
                    - Continue to live in Paris
                    - Busuu.com, Lang-8, and mutli-lingual lounge

It goes without saying that I will try to use all of the methods I have found here on HTLAL to aid me in my goals. Those being, L-R, Scriptorium, Shadowing etc. I will see how they pan out.

Thom.

Well in the European Framework of Language thingy that exists over here they have standardised, or are trying to, the levels of each language.

Delf and Dalf are the French levels:

Diplôme d'études en langue française: Up to B2
Diplôme approfondi de langue française: C1 and C2 = you're an awesome french speaker.

They are, I imagine a nice shiny certificate which says what exam you passed. And are the basis of why some people have a A1,A2,B1,B2,C1, C2 etc above the language that they speak. I suppose it means they sat the exams. Spanish's is DELE or something.

You can find example exams for French here.
*edit link takes you to the C2 page, but just on the left are each individual level.*

Well considering that I can't get the bugs out of the original post, I won't copy my stuff from word again. *edit*went through and retyped it all*

Thanks Volte, if they don't I'll change them so we shall see.

Spanish: I have a 5000 word list sorted by frequency. I will ANNIHILATE it over the coming year. I am consistantly practicing my preTAC Spanish on Bussu.com, and have now finished 15 units. Leopejo, and tricours have convinced me to sign up to lang-8.com as well.

I am consistantly working my way through l'espagnol sans peine as well as I have stated in my other log.

French:I am posting bigger more elaborate paragraphs on the French portion of busuu to be corrected as well, have done two units.

*EDIT*
This is what I put on busuu this afternoon.

This is what I got back.

I disagree on the way she fixed a couple of things, doesn't catch the meaning I wanted. But this is here to remind me of where I am, and where I want to be. Shits me off that the emboldened changes didn't copy across, but those of you who understand, will figure it out, those of you that don't and/or didn't read it, well lets just say that there is room for improvement.

*END EDIT*

German: I will commence at the kick off.

I will probably alternate German and Spanish throughout the week. One day on and one day off. If I find that I don't have enough time, it will probably be German which loses out. But we will see. I will try to do a little bit of French every day. Until I reach a point where I am satisfied with my level of French. Which should leave the latter half of 2009 to busting out some Spanish and German.

Thom.

"I would read a grammar through, look up the examples, making notes as I went along, and I wouldn’t pass by anything until I could explain it. I never learned long lists of words, but I would read a page through, recall the words I didn’t know, and then look them up. I read anything that I thought would be interesting to me if it were in English. I got so interested in the story that I was unconscious of the labor–as a man is interested in his roses, and doesn’t think of the thorns."
