This sentence was made with Google translate

This sentence was made with Google Translate
Tiu frazo estis farita kun Google Translate

This sentence was made with Google translate
Tiu frazo estis farita kun Google traduki

(cititaj el memoro)

Mi rimarkis ion mirindan: la kontraŭa al aliaj lingvoj esperanto ŝajne uzas hispanan lingvon kiel intermediario - kiam ĝi ne scias vorton en esperanto,ne estas anglaj, sed hispanaj vortoj kiuj aperas:

English: functionality --> 'Esperanto': funcionalidad   (funkcio saŭ funkceco?)

Tiu eble klarigis eraroj kiel la sekva:

English: This concerns everybody --> 'Esperanto': Ĉi zorgojn everybody

For ye Anglophones: Fasulye and I are discussing television programs from zoos, and Germany is there the nearest thing to the Garden of Eden - funnily enough always with Programs named "Someanimal and Someotheranimal and Co.". This holds true even though Fasulye has noticed a decline in this genre. I have four German channels, but people with digital Astra receivers have scores of German channels and a corresponding number of possibilites to watch TV from Germany (plus a number of channels in other languages like Spanish, Catalan, Polish, French, Chinese etc.). In Denmark there has only been one program long ago, and it has been shown again again until it became slightly nauseating. The local channels have sometimes programs, but they are regional and it can be a program to know when they intend to send and what the intend to send.

LAT: Nudiustertius (die ante heri) canalis Evan1965i in Youtubo in filo 'nerd'orum (quomodo transferre??) in modo fortuito nominabatur. In istae videotaeniae explicat quomodo textum interlineare tollebatur a schola cum adventu modi naturali.

Two days ago someone mentioned Evans1965 (Milner)'s channel at Youtube. He is a true aficionado who has recorded hundreds of videos in order to teach people Latin (though so far with lamentably few views - for instance 27 hits for a fable of Aesop in La Fontaines translation). In some videos he use the natural method ("This is sugar. 'Sugar' is a noun"), others are pure readings (though here I would prefer a more levelheaded reading without too much acting), and there or some where you read a text on the screen while he reads it aloud. But then there are also the interlinear texts in the tradition of a certain Hamilton. He explains the rationale behind these texts in a video in English (yes, he can speak English) - the history basically is that Hamilton and others before him used them to teach students to read Latin. When first FSI and later the 'natural method' rolled over the pedagogical landscape these bilingual texts were all but abolished, and now Evan Milner and yours truly try to bring them back after years of wasted time. Although I must say that I don't like to hear such a text being read aloud - I would prefer seeing the bilingual text on the screen and just hearing the Latin version.

My bus-back-from-my-job reading this week has mainly been a guidebook in Spanish (!) to the National Palace Museum in Taipei, where a lot of things from the private collections of the Ching emperors are kept. And for the emperors nothing was too good so there are things here which testify to a simply breathtaking technical and artistic level - such as a thingy with all in all 17 ivory globes rotating freely one inside the other - like Russian dolls (but with the difference that the dolls can't rotate when they are put inside each other). There are of course also specimens of Chinese calligraphy from several thousand years, but the most strange aspect here is not the technical skills of the calligraphers, but how anybody can read the stuff. Printed signs, well, they are hard but with a magnifying glass and several years of schooling it goes. The brush strokes in some of the handpainted scrolls are so informal and seemingly random that it can be hard to see that they even represent a specific sign. I was also impressed by the 3-4 meter wide digital rendering of an old silk painting representing a whole street in some Chinese town. It was shown staticly first, but suddenly all the myriads of small figures began to walk and hop and run and ride around like in a cartoon by Disney.

Unfortunately photography is strictly forbidden in the museum, and there are guards running around carrying flags with this message in English all over the place for those who might be tempted to overlook a few signs on the walls.

Today I have spent a little time on a fairly large number of languages, in most cases making both wordlists and short text copies.

Léigh mé inné go 10% de na daoine i nGaillimh go labhraíonn Ghaelach. Ní dóigh mé, gur féidir labhairt leo i mí iúil. Is é Gaeilge ró-dheacair é!
