I've had a dream quite recently in which I 'met' a person whom I know from the internet and I was talking to this person in English, though I felt rather awkward in this dream as I was meeting this person unexpectedly and the dialog was rather unnatural. Strangely enough, the other person's English was perfect and clearly a native speaker. It was a very vivid dream and I felt kind of 'bewildered' when I woke up. I don't remember what was actually said.

I vaguely remember having had dreams in other languages before (most likely in English, maybe French too) but I can't remember anything about them, unfortunately. Maybe I should start writing down whenever I remember dreaming something because you quickly forget your dreams.

I've also had recurring dreams, things that I had dreamed years ago that would reappear. Dreaming may be natural but I still find it a mysterious phonemenon. I personally doubt science will ever be able to offer a satisfactory explanation.

Now when I listen to Spanish radio and study it with my girlfiend, sometimes talk to Italians and have to chat with American client, I stopped noticing dreaming in other languages. The most funny thing is that in the dreams I sometimes stop and think again if I had said that in correct Spanish, rather than in ItaƱol.

Anybody had such a situation in a dream: you hear something you don't understand and ask for an explanation, or you're told about something you didn't know, but then suddenly realize it's just a dream -- I do sometimes without waking up. You understand it's unreal and there won't be an explanation, but you're still interested - it feels so dissapointing! :) (example: someone tells you an incomprehensible phrase and you ask for an explanation)

Well, maybe it's not the same, but a woman in my dream said something to me in German and pointed at something on the floor. I said, "Wie bitte?" (pardon?) She said it again but I didn't understand.

Then I thought, "Oh, I think she said something about 'erreichen', to reach."

I didn't actively know this word. But when I woke up, I realised I was right. That is what it means. O__O

I've heard it said that once you're dreaming in another language, you've become fluent.

But I once dreamed in Spanish, which I can somewhat communicate in but badly, and I couldn't even understand myself in my dream.

And it took me a few years of studying French to dream in the language. I dreamed that I went to Quebec because I wanted to attend college there in my dream and so I was talking to the dean of admissions in French. I could understand myself that time :)

I have had a number of dreams over time where I can just 'magically' speak in another language. I don't know how I'm saying what I'm saying, but everything that I'm 'saying' is getting perfectly across to the other party and everything that they are saying is getting perfectly across to me... but I always seem to start to wake up in these dreams and then I remember thinking "what on earth are you saying? you don't even know!" ... then I actually wake up... it's very strange.
