Hello, I am new to the forum. I was wondering if anyone has purchased Pimsleur products from lingoshop.com. They have an interesting buy back program that has me ready to purchase but I do not know their reputation.

I would advise eBay as your best bet for cheap Pimsleur products. I was going to say that you should look in your local library but then I read your profile in the other thread!

I bought pimsleur's mandarin I-III all thru lingoshop(recommended) and
subsequently returned them all when i was done. They also gave me a
discount for purchasing all three at once (still too expensive) and i went
though all 90 lessons in a record 30 days. My advice is to check ebay
first, and unless each course is under $75 with shipping and unscratched
cd's (remember no book with pimsleur) go thru lingoshop.com

Some might say that the disadvantage of returning the pimsleur courses
is that after you're done you dont get to review them later, however i have
to say that in my opinion, the pacing of pimsleur SUCKS and i would never
bother listening to those cds again anyway. They really only do teach 4
words a lesson and just repeat the same sentence over and over again,
with the slightest of variations. The program is designed for the
linguistically challenged.

And not to forget the fact that you can copy the CDs before returning them. ;)

What I have found to the best combination was using Pimsleur in conjunction with a separate learning system. For Hebrew for example, I am using Pimsleur Hebrew II and am also using a couple of textbooks and readers. The textbooks are older from Behrman House publisher but still are good. What I find is that my reading is much better than my conversation so even though Pimsleur is "slow" as far as the extent of vocabulary it introduces per lesson, what I call the "real time response" ability is increased. My real vocabulary learning comes from books and vocabulary cards. UltimateLanguageStore.com has a higher buy back, so if you're planning to sell them back, you may want to check that out.

My recent post in a different section, caused me to remember to recommend vocab cards as part of the mix. I ultimately bought some printed because I didn't want to write that many, but I had previously made them by hand. The effort to actually write them, double check the spelling, make sure I had the right meaning with the right word, helped me retain the extra vocabulary.

I have been working on Pimsleur Hebrew I and have found it a great course.
Linguistically challenged lol. I know this is an old conversations but oh well we can certainly hijack it. I have found the same thing - work through Pimsleur and other material and it certainly all works well together. I have been learning for less than a month but intensively and feel that my progress has been great. People with no patience complain at Pimsleur. People who need quick shiny materials complain at Pimsleur. I wish people would stop blaming the good product for their own mental habits which lead them to see anything that does not move at the speed of light as terribly inadequate.

I find all materials (which provide correct language) are good if you know how learn. If you do not know how to learn efficienty then you will not survive in language learning. I notice a lot out there who say they love to learn languages but seem to not put any work in and whine about advertising.

Sorry for my rant but I think some people just complain too much.
(possibly me included hehehe)

Can't wait till I buy Pimsleur Hebrew II soon and III when it comes out in december.

Shalom,
Yehoshua
