	My aim is to get to this level of proficiency: "Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options." This is the B2 Level as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. (I just copied and pasted from Wiki) I've already completed the Michel Thomas beginner and advanced courses which I found amazing. I started the vocabulary course, but the less said about that the better... I feel I can conjugate Italian verbs effortlessly now. My main material will be the Assimil With Ease textbook and audio. I won't be using the actual Assimil method itself though. I've decided to start a log, as I hope it will keep me on track, whether it will or not is another story. Let's see how it goes!! 	Just a little note on how I intend to use Assimil. I have to know every little detail, and every single word, this is extremely annoying since it creates a lot more work for me. I've tried to just accept things, but I have to know EVERY little detail. Here's an example of how I will learn an Assimil Lesson: SETTANTACINQUESIMA LEZIONE - - SEVENTY-FIFTH LESSON Domani si va a pesca! si va a pesca = one is going to fish Andare a pesca = to go fishing si (s') pron. = oneself; himself; herself; itself; themselves Buonanotte a tutti! Il nonno ed io andiamo a letto presto buonanotte interj. = goodnight, have a pleasant evening! a tutti = to all = everyone; everybody; all of you Il nonno nm = grandfather, grandpa, granddad ed io = and I; me and… Andare a letto presto = to go to bed early a letto adv. = in bed; to bed perchè domani dobbiamo svegliarci all'alba: andiamo al lago a pescare Svegliarsi pv = to wake up; to awake all'alba adv. at dawn, at sunrise Andiamo al lago = we’re going to the lake a pescare = to fish al lago = to the lake Il lago nm = lake; loch Domani si va a pesca! Buonanotte a tutti! Il nonno ed io andiamo a letto presto, perchè domani dobbiamo svegliarci all'alba: andiamo al lago a pescare. ---- Basically, I'll be going through each sentence one by one, making sure I know every bit of detail. I won't be using the English translation that Assimil have given. I used the Italian Oxford-Paravia dictionary to get the meanings of the individual words. Once this has been done, I will then read the whole Italian text while listening to the audio. I don't know if this is going to work, but I feel comfortable with it. 	That sounds like an excellent plan :-) And understanding every detail will be much easier once you 'own' all the most important structures... I'll be using some of your points from this thread in my own soon-to-be-sped-up-significantly Italian studies. Good luck with it, I'm sure you'll do great! 	Well, my plan has changed slightly. I've been reading some very influential posts by a member named "Linguamor", and I have applied some of the techniques she advocates into how I use and learn with Assimil. I'm in the process of copying the Assimil dialogues into word into a column with the Italian on the left and the English on the right. I'm simply highlighting chunks of the text with its corresponding chunk of text on the English side [using red and blue]. I did this for lesson 66, and I leant the lesson fully in about 35 minutes, with seemingly active recall as well; this has never happened to me before. I find it so tedious using the audio, even though I'm well aware I won't succeed much without it. 2 persons have voted this message useful
