I think Professor Arguelles is fully entitled to charge for his services. However, I would have to agree with you that it is a little rude to let people go on posting questions here in the understanding that their questions will be answered. Perhaps 'rude' is too harsh a word - let's say it seems a little bit inconsiderate.
So let's get this straight. The economies of all of the major European countries are in complete meltdown due to the Crunch. Unemployment is soaring - especially amoung young people. Yet the EU is using taxpayers' money to promote a pointless invented language? I have nothing against people who want to indulge in this artificial culture at their own personal expense. But if public money is being used in support, then I believe that is a complete scandal. (I will be inclined to complain to my European Member of Parliament if this goes ahead.) --------------- EDIT If I seem a bit sour on this last point, it's because I've taken a few business-hits myself in the Crunch! At the best of times the EU wastes far too much taxpayers' money on stupid mumbo-jumbo projects. But at times like these any and every waste of taxes is completely intolerable - in my opinion. Agreed. But if the professor is no longer doing the forum, I still say it would be nice to let us all know. (I'm sure he's very busy, etc. But it wouldn't take more than a few seconds just to put up a quick post.) 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

JonB, the EU is not promoting Esperanto per se but all kinds of seminars that bring together young people from different European countries and that teach them things that they can pass on to others. These seminars have to be organized by a recognized international non-government organization, and the World Esperanto Youth Organization is just one of the organizations that can organize such seminars and request funding.

It is unfortunately true that I have no time for the forum at present, but I have made no conscious decision to leave it, and, circumstances permitting, I hope to respond to substantive posts - such as the initial one in this thread - again in the future.

Professor, thanks for the update.
I think that I would be much happier to see a book from you and get personalized instruction after attempting to assimilate and practice the knowledge in said book. I've read about the progress you have made in this directions and hope that something can come of it. I think it will come to be known as "The polyglot's bible". Perhaps, one day, when you train up an army of polyglots, they can take off some of the pressure in regards to your forum duties! Though I hardly think many could compare to you professor. Professor, I would also like to thank you for giving us this update. Perhaps I should apologize if some of my recent comments have seemed a little bit sour in their tone? But as others have also pointed out, there is a certain frustration in not knowing whether a forum is active or not (although I should also emphasize that I myself have not posted any questions.)
