@Warp Which Namie albums have you listened to? She's my favorite soloist in Japan, so I have plenty of tracks to recommend. Uh, I don't like AKB48 at all. I tried. I honestly did. @Ymer Japanese idols are just people picked off from the street without any training. I watched AKB48 live once, and aside from the fact that they didn't sing a single line live, the dancing was awful. I shit on Kpop idols all the time, but at least there are a few talented idols in every Korean idol group while Japanese idol groups are devoid of talent. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

The only two albums of hers I currently have are "Past & Future" and "Checkmate" (both of which I picked up by chance when looking for Korean music in the past). The former seems to have the more interesting songs out of the two, but the latter seems to be all songs with various foreign artists as guest appearances. I've not really listened all the way through either album, though, so I can't say for sure that there are/aren't any interesting songs there.
So far, I'm inclined to agree. I find "Beginner" quite catchy, but all the other songs I've heard so far are completely different from the style of that song. BTW, I've also found myself growing to like KARA's Ima Okuritai Arigatou (the ballad song from the "Jet Coaster Love" album). Honestly...I'm not in any big rush to fill my library with Japanese music, but I would like to find a least a few songs I like as a starting point. In the few minutes I have left during my commute after a Pimsleur Japanese lesson, I usually set my MP3 player to shuffle the Japanese MP3s I have to kinda keep my brain in Japanese mode for a bit afterward (rather than jumping straight over to Korean mode the instant the lesson ends). Since I have a tendency to seek straight to the songs I know I like, that means I currently play those 3-4 songs and that's about it. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I can post some more later. Yeah, I always wait a while when switching between Korean and Japanese. If I watch something Korean and then go straight to Japanese, it'll sound like bad Korean to me instead of a different language. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

Yesterday I listened to all six of m-flo's albums andtranslated two articles. I also watched two episodes of Fantasy Couple. I'd have to say yesterday was pretty productive.

I haven't done anything with Japanese since I posted about restarting it. It's all about Korean right now for me. I've been reading my novels again, started watching more dramas again, etc. I guess Japanese will just be the language I dabble with when I get burnt out on Korean every few months. Probably won't do anything serious with Japanese for a few years anyway, since Korean is the only language I wish to be fluent in.

It's nice to have a language on the side to divert to every once in a while when you start to get burnt out on your main focus language. We'll see how involved I become in Japanese study once I start into "real study" mode (once I finish up Pimsleur I, at least). It may end up taking on the same status for me eventually, though I suspect it will take a good chunk of my time at first simply due to the newness of it.

I really noticed it in 2011 that I wasn't making much progress in either language since I tried to study both about 50/50. I found that from month to month, it didn't seem like I was getting any better at comprehending and producing either language. That's why I decided to focus on Korean because I was tired of the two and half years where it felt like I had little progress in both languages.

I'm really starting to believe that a lot of reading helps improve other language skills. It's getting easier for me to use certain structures now. The problem is that it doesn't replace actual practice, so one cannot just expect reading a lot to allow them to speak/write fluently, but it certainly helps a lot.
I have found reading to be much more helpful than SRS when it comes to remembering words and grammar structures. Seeing the same sentences over and over does nothing for me except help me to memorize those sentences. 1 person has voted this message useful |
