Hi all

I was thinking at having a look at the Assimil programs for French. I was wondering what was the difference between Assimil French without toil and New French with Ease. Which of the two was better if I need to make a choice between the two.

Thanks in advance
John

Take the more recent one: New French with Ease.

staf250, really? I thought the general thought here was that the old editions where better. I'm working through the old edition (1940 printing) and loving it.

Just that the newer books are more up to date on some slang*. The older versions surely are more classic. French
does not much change tough.
* I used older and newer versions of Italian. It really is very interesting.

Thanks a lot....But are the lessons in the 2 the same or different? I mean does the new version have more lessons in addition to the old lessons?

The lessons, the text is different. When I'm back at home I'll see how many lessons you will find in the newer and
the former book. I don't have the oldest one. There are three different Assimil books for beginners, to learn
French.

French Without Toil has 140 lessons and was published in 1940 so the language might be a bit dated but I don't think this would be too much of a problem.

New French With Ease has 113 lessons and I think was published in the 1980's and is the most recent version for English Speakers.

Rout, a member here, has uploaded the audio for French Without Toil, so if you choose to use this you would only need to get the book.
The book can be got fairly cheap online, have a look at Abebooks.com.

Edit: According to Amazon, New French With Ease was published in 1998
