Either by gauging yourself or by going to a testing center.

If you want to gauge yourself, there are sets of "can do" statements that apply to each
level. If you can do those tasks, you probably fall under the corresponding level.
There may even be some online quizzes.

A website for self gauging:
http://www.cambridgeesol.org/exams/exams-info/cefr.html

Alternatively, many languages have bodies such as the Alliance Française or Instituto
Cervantes that administer tests for a fee.

Fanatic, Have you used Assimil for any of your other languages? Also, would you recommend any other program(s) that complents Assimil, especially? I am starting Spanish and would like to learn it well and quickly (as possible).

Michael,

Assimil's Spanish with ease is not better than the Living Language's program you already own. It could be a nice complement to it though.
Take into consideration that Assimil teaches mostly the language of Spain.

I own both courses. However, if I were American and had to pick up Spanish, then Ultimate Spanish would be my first choice. After that, I would make sure to obtain the advanced course also, or, as an alternative, I would opt for a podcast site. there is so much material on the Net to be spoilt for choice.

The podcasts at Lingq.com seem a valid tool. Spanishpodcast.org and notesinspanish.com are good too.

Thanks, Luigi! Have you heard anything about the Cortina method (it's another resource that I have for Spanish)? I have quite a few resources, I just have no idea which ones I should use, how to use them, and how fast....

I used Assimil Spanish Without Toil and Synergy Spanish for help with common conversation. I have other programs, Ultimate Spanish and LSLC which I have hardly used. I also got a Latin American Spanish Linguaphone course.

I have read a translation of my own book, printed in Mexico. I doubt there is any difference between Spanish Spanish and Mexican Spanish when it comes to teaching mathematics and logic. I understood it quite well.

I would work through Assimil each day for the main program and supplement it with Synergy Spanish or another program. Assimil gives you a set amount for each day and you know when to move on to the next lesson. This is a big advantage. With other courses I have tended to spend too much time on each lesson to ensure I have completely mastered it.

I like the Cortina courses. Work with it alongside Assimil and you should do well. The Cortina course books I have major on spoken language which I think is important. That is why I suggested Synergy Spanish.

Synergy Spanish teaches you to make the most of the vocabulary you already know.
