Nice to meet another Georgian learner! Beginner's Georgian is a very good book! By the way, I like the thing you said on TixhiiDon's log about Georgian learners being a secret club. Ok I will do it paragraph by paragraph so it will be easier to follow... Whatever I
write in parenthesis is just comments and/or paraphrasing. I am not going to use a dictionary! (edit: ok I lied, I used one once because I didn't want to say that your dog died if it didn't! But turns out I was right. :(
As you read in the last post (something like that!), I am writing a few paragraphs(?) in Georgian. During the last two weeks I have been very busy because my mother and sister were visiting me in Tokyo. (I must say/ point out??...just a guess!) they don't speak Japanese and they can't really do anything, so they... (I guess it basically means they need someone to do everything with them?). We had a good time(?) together and it was very nice seeing my family, but, to tell the truth, I am happy to return to my normal life (something like that haha...)
(This one is harder! I don't really understand the first part but I think you are saying that your life changed completely...your normal routine was destroyed, something like that. Then you said your family got it's newest member three days ago). This blog's regulars probably(?) remember that my dog unfortunately died in February of last year. Then I thought often about whether I want a new dog. Living with a dog is very nice and funny (or fun? That makes more sense), but a dog is a big responsibility(?) and free time(?) is hard for a dog owner (doesn't make much sense in English but I hope you know what I meant!)
(Again I have to paraphrase a lot...I think you said you made a decision when your friend offered(?) you her dog's puppy. Then your new puppy moved in to your house last Thursday.) Her name is Juno, she has a (some color) (something...fur? I don't know), and her breed(?) is Saluki, like my last dog. I got a two week vacation from (something) so I could start her (something...like training, or getting her used to living with you...just guessing though ;P) At the moment she is laying (or sitting?) next to me and (basically that's the only reason you can write the post), but (when you're done you will be busy again).
(Something about "with a face"?...) you can say that this April is an eventful (totally guessed on that one...haha) and wonderful month for me.
Haha! How exactly did that happen... was it the tavisi/misi thing? Just curious! Wow... that was hard! But after all, it was National Mother Language day in Georgia on Saturday (a day to celebrate Georgian). Wow, you basically got it. Pretty amazing considering you didn't use a dictionary. I'm impressed.
The puppy thing would actually have sounded equally ridiculous in English. I initially wrote "My friend offered me one of her puppies". I guess you could maybe get away with that in English,but when I read it back it looked really funny in Georgian. As for the fun/funny thing, I'm not sure whether Georgian has a single adjective that corresponds directly to "fun", so yeah, I used "funny". I know exactly what you mean, there. That was part of my inspiration for when I was trying to learn Irish, and also for learning Yiddish. A combination of wanting to help save a declining language and yet also have something that only other members of the club have, and no one would ever expect you to have. Ironically, in some ways Irish and Yiddish are even more obscure than Georgian nowadays, though in both cases, 100-200 years ago it may have been the opposite (especially with Yiddish). 1 person has voted this message useful |
