Do you think that Pimsleur method of never teaching grammar explicitly is effective? I was thinking not, because adults can learn grammar much more faster just by looking at the rules, right?
The Pimsleur method never teaches grammar explicitly, instead leaving the student to infer the grammar through common patterns and phrases repeated over and over. Pimsleur said this inductive method is precisely how native speakers learn grammar when they are children; only in schools is it "taught" on the blackboard. Even among adults, there is a range of preferences. Personally, I prefer the drilling
involved with Pimsleur over the explanations involved with Michel Thomas. I remember reading a while back that there may be a physiological explanation for differing preferences (right brain vs left brain?). 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. I CAN'T finish pimsleur. Honestly, it's a good program, useful phrases and everything, but so boring I can't take it. It makes me angry! lol If you can make it through pimsleur DO IT. Otherwise find something else. I find Assimil much more enjoyable and easier to learn. :) Pimsleur is great to get you speaking though, along with Michel Thomas. Do all 3! I think Pimsleur is best used when engaged in physical activity; I don't get bored when

Even FSI is more entertaining than Pimsleur is. If there weren't so much English in the lessons it would be a bit easier to push through. But that might only take away 5-10 minutes from each lesson.
