Can you recommend a French Grammar book? | ||

Sorry for the apparent laziness of this question: I did Google but was overwhelmed by the number of hits. I trust french.about.com, and found its recommended list. Sadly, the books I judged most suited to my level are long out of print.
I last studied French 25 years ago at school (I aged a little just typing that), but I'm finding it fairly easy to pick up again. Something equivalent to 'Essential German Grammar' (Kohl, Durrell & Loftus) - if you know it - would be perfect. I don't need protecting from grammatical terms and concepts, and I like plenty of examples. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I just bought "A comprehensive French Grammar" by Glanville Price which is indeed quite comprehensive and well-written as far as I can tell by now. You can have a closer look at the book at amazon.com and at Google Books.

If you can use a book written in French, I suggest Nouvelle Grammaire du Français (Hachette) or La grammaire française (Nathan).

I have read all of them and this one is definitely the best and the only one you will need (do not let the title fool you because it is quite comprehensive):
