Assimil doesnt have any quality control in the translated versions of their books. I have "el nuevo Italiano sin esfuerzo" and is just disgusting the number of typos it has, there's even some french text they forgot to translate, there are complete sentences that are not in the translated text etc. I had to buy "le nouvel italien sans peine" second hand... Anyway, right now I only buy the original version, they do make sure of the quality of the french ones (and the quality of the English one to learn french)

Whoa, the Japanese book is hardcover? I thought they were all turtleback.

They probably are! Sorry, I must've used the wrong term. It's not a hardback as in rigid. It's just a durable plastic cover, not paperback. I haven't heard of turtle back, but it's probably just that. Just a regular Assimil book before they released paperbacks.
