To determine the pitch accent rules seems a very tough problem. Here is a page about Tokyo accent in the Japanese wikipedia
http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%9D%B1%E4%BA%AC%E5%BC%8F%E3% 82%A2%E3%82%AF%E3%82%BB%E3%83%B3%E3%83%88
or google "東京式アクセント"
I am a Kansainese, speak in Keihanshin-accent. I myself can not speak in correct Tokyo accent. Japanese accent is very complicated.

Thanks, nescafe, that's also what I've been finding lately. Before I started delving into this, I didn't realize that it was noun phrase endings and verb endings that dictated pitch patterns. Sounds stupid, but nobody could tell me, so I didn't know.
I've been finding pattern tables lately (like the link you posted) and I'll be studying them. Even if I don't remember them all, I'm sure there are a few basic patterns that will cover a large percentage of cases. That's still better than not knowing at all.
People always say that Japanese pronunciation is easy, but now I disagree -- though the sounds are easy, the entire pronunciation system is not at all easier than, say, most European languages.
Once I've mastered the pitch patterns of Tokyo Japanese, I'll be studying the patterns in Kansai-ben ;)
