These courses were free in the United States if one could find them for free.
The Foreign Service Institute considered them "consumable," i.e. they
were discarded after each course ended. Some libraries had the books but
almost none had the recordings. The only reliable source was the National
Audio Visual Center in Suitland, Maryland, which sold them at cost. Thi
Center has been abolished. They were always available through bookstores,
at high prices.
