Hello everyone, I am having some trouble with the equivalent of the -ing stem in Italian. I know the endings -ando and endo correlate with it, but when i read articles in Italian it seems to me that the infinitive of a verb also correlates with it? for example, in the sentence:
"Gli stranieri che vaggiano in Italia in questo periodo corrono il rischio di trovare le città..."
when i read this it translates to me as:
"the foreigners that travel in italy in this period run the risk of finding the cities..."
is this correct? or is it some idiom i dont know about?

When the verb is use as a nouns in Italian we use the infinitive form.
Instead, when the verbs is used as in the progressive tense, we use the -ndo form.
Ex: I’m thinking of going - Sto pensando di andare

You are right. Your translation is good.
What you have to be aware of is that in English the -ing ending has two different
functions.
1) You use it to form progressive tenses: I am buying a chair. "Am buying" is the verb
and "a chair" is the thing you're buying.
For doing this in Italian you should use "verb ESSERE + verb with ANDO or ENDO ending
(depending of the verb)" Sto acquistando una sedia
2) You use it to form gerund phrases: I don't like eating with you. "Don't like" is the
verb and "eating with you" is the thing you don't like.
For doing this in Italian you should use the infinitive. Non mi piace mangiare con te.
