I need some help with certain phrases from a passage I'm working through.
!) 昨天我的同事刚从国外得了学位回来。 Yesterday one of my colleagues returned home from abroad after receiving a diploma.(?) 2) 知识分子在一块儿吃饭喜欢说话，一边吃，一 边说，吃得很慢。 知识 = knowledge (?) 分子 = member/molecule (?) 一块儿 = at the same place (?) The members of knowledge eat and like talking at the same place, they eat and talk, they eat very slowly. (???) 3) 看来，我的这位同事在国外很能干。 It seems that this colleague of mine may very well work abroad. 1. Correct, though to be more literal "just returned home" might be better.
2. 知识分子 = intellectuals, 一块儿 = together. "Intellectuals like to talk when eating together, (because they are) talking and eating at the same time, they eat very slowly." 3. 能干 = capable. (lit. able to do) "It seems that my colleague is very capable abroad." 2 persons have voted this message useful | |
