I'm always told I have a "cute Canadian accent", and I've been asked if I grew up in
Saskatchewan because I sound "more Canadian" than my parents. We were ALL born and raised in Toronto. I'm not really sure of a difference actually, but either way, this is apparently one of the first things one of my ex boyfriends noticed about me and why he approached me (in high school... aww). Anyway, for me... the sound of a Russian man melts my heart. I was always a fan of Viggo Mortensen, but it wasn't until he donned a (rather convincing) Russian accent in Eastern Promises that I realized just how ~sexy~ he is. mmm 2 persons have voted this message useful | ||||||

Southern US accents make people sound slightly unintelligent to me. Not all, considering the wide variety, but some. Canadian is too close to mine for me to notice (I live within 15-20 mins drive of Canada). Outside of that I enjoy:

I cannot stand the American accent, in whatever way it comes. I just can't take seriously, it's only good for films and series. British RP can get on my nerves if it's too "sharp", and I have troubles with Liverpudlian, I mean, seriously, I never thought ordering a McChicken would be such a challenge…
On the other hand, I love the Northern Irish accent so much I sometimes just put shows on to hear it. I quite like mild Scottish accents, and the Mancunian accent makes me feel home. Apart from that, I don't really like it when a foreigner has an accent in English (thank God I can't properly hear the way I talk!), and apart from British, I don't really like any other accents when people speak French. Within the same language, I like the sound of Damascene colloquial Arabic, is soft and slow, but I abhor Egyptian Arabic. I just love Russian in general so it doesn't really matter, in this case. I also hate strong québécois accents, unless it's in a comedy programme, else, it just sounds archaic and ridiculous to my ears. Finally, southern French is just too slow for me, and there really is no need for the extra vowels at the end of words! I do quite like hearing non-English native speakers speaking English, especially French and Italians. I have a
colleague at work from Québec who does not speak English that well and whenever he tries it's just adorable. Part of this, I think, is that he sounds a bit helpless because he knows his accent is thick and his vocabulary is small, but he tries so hard. They can also be very sexy, but that depends a lot on the man to begin with. People have often said to me in Canada that they could listen to me read from the phonebook and not get bored of hearing my voice. My boyfriend has had that as well, they seem really keen to just hear English people talk. 1 person has voted this message useful |
