Hi, this is really pissing me off. I can't really roll my 'r's properly-I can get the
rolling sound but I can only hold it for a split second before it goes-I can't hold a
long rolled 'r' for any length of time at all. The main reason I need this is for
Spanish, but it's also useful for some of my other languages as well like Italian or
Russian if I learn it.
Does anybody know why this could be happening? Thanks.

Look up videos on youtube, and just practice. Once I understood how to do it it came pretty quickly to me, but I've heard of some people having trouble with it.

I have personally never been able to roll my Spanish rr properly. Teacher spent 10
minutes trying to teach me how to do it, never was able to figure it out really.

You have to put your tongue in the right spot. If you can do a flap then try pushing the tongue a bit forward. It may help.

You might be trying too hard. If you blow too hard over your tongue, it won't roll.

Come to think of it, I've never had a problem with rolling my R's in Arabic. It might be that thinking about it makes it harder. You should instead be listening to the way a native would say the word and just mimic it. I know it sounds too easy to be true, but that's how I learned to roll my R's. I didn't even have to think about it, but everyone is different of course.

10 minutes. Man, it took me 2 years to be able to roll my rs again after not speaking Slovak for 10 years.
