[Hebrew] Need help understanding a text | ||

I got this from an Israeli news site. An expression bothers me:
השאיפה שלנו לחיות על אדמה זו כיישוב חקלאי Ha'sheifah shelanu li'khyot al adamah zu ke'yishuv khakla'i Our ambition is to live on a land... what the hell is this "zu"? Isn't it a demonstrative pronoun? I can't understand it's purpose here. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

adama zu... In Hebrew we have Zu/Ze its like "this" in English or "este/esta" in Spanish. It has a lot of functions. In this sentence it comes after "adama" to note that they want to live not on just any land but "THIS" "ZU" Land/adama. "Our ambition is to live on THIS land as an agricultural settlement"?
But I thought the noun has to be definite in order to qualify demonstrative pronouns. This is another function then? Thank you! 1 person has voted this message useful |
