Hello guys

I was reading this section, but I realized that something sounds "odd" to me: this section has been named "fai da se", which is an expression I have never heard in Italian. I know "fai da te", which is grammatically correct and widespread, but "fai da se" looks incorrect: "fai" means "you do", and does not match correctly with "da se", which implies a different people/thing "doing it".
I am not an expert in grammar, simply a native speaker.

Yes, I see what you mean. As I understand it, fai da te is like English DIY - do it yourself.

But fai da se doesn't seem to mean the same thing. Forgive me if I am wrong, but wouldn't the pronoun 'se' be more formal, so with 'fa' not 'fai', so it would be written 'fa da se'?

The "formal" shoud be : "faccia da se", with the third singular person of congiuntivo.
Here it is used "fai", which is indicativo "second" singular person: it is clearly YOU, not HER (lei).

OK, that seems correct to me.

Please can you explain why the subjunctive (congiuntivo) is used for the third person, instead of present tense?
Thank you for explaining, it really helps my Italian grammar.

And does this mean that the title of the section needs changing?

Grazie per il cortese messaggio, ho cambiato "fai da se" in "fai da te".
Distinti saluti,

A daniel95:
imperativo in Italiano si construisce un po' simile che in inglese:
fa da te - do it yourself
faccia da se - let him/her do it himself/herself

Se vuoi usare imperativo in 3 persona in inglese non puoi dire: "him do it", ma "let him do it". Lo stesso in Italiano: "faccia" vuol dire "let him/her do it".
In Italiano abbiamo bisogna di usare congiuntivo per la 3 persona, ed anche in inglese usiamo congiuntivo, anche se non lo chiamiamo così.

So che questo post e un po' vecchio ma non ho riuscito resistere a scrivere qualche parola.
