For the last few weeks, I've been using Yabla to freshen up my German and Spanish, and
I really like it! If you don't know Yabla, it's essentially an online platform that offers a selection of videos, rated for difficulty. When you watch a video, bilingual clickable subtitles appear below the image, which open up a dictionary entry, and there are functions that allow you to easily go back and forth between frames. There is also the possibility of slowing down video (useful on a first listen), but unfortunately, I always watch on my iPad and this function doesn't work on it. I've even watched videos on the bus without audio. Works too. There are various kinds of videos offered, including lots of interviews, so you definitely get lots of natural input. They are always short, usually under 5 minutes, so it's always easy to put on a quick video inbetween activities, while you may feel you don't have time for a longer show. Just watched the segment on hyperpolyglots. Very interesting, but very little of our townhall discussion was

There's been a lot of interest for the Global TV show in the last few days, but also some disappointment in how much editing our discussion had gone through. A request has been made to obtain the full footage of our discussion. We'll see what happens. EDIT: request was turned down.
In any case, anyone who wanted to hear my English (and a tiny bit of Japanese) got a chance to, albeit at lightning speed. I'm planning to make a video soon, but simply haven't had the time to get around to filming it. Otherwise, I was able to make it to our local Japanese conversation group yesterday, after missing it for a few weeks, and I was on fire! Felt really good. Gotta savour those good days... For what it's worth, I thought your English sounded native in the little bit I heard. I enjoyed the show, too. Shame that we'll probably never get to see more of the discussion.
