I've taken Spanish for a few years and feel it's time to step it up a level and go through an immersion program. The question is which one; and in which country? I was thinking Guatemala but I would like to know some personal experiences.
Much thanks, Dylan.

What do you want to do with your Spanish? Do you want to explore a certain culture with it? Is there a particular country that interests you more than others? You mention Guatemala. Does the country in particular hold special interest?
You can find immersion programs in pretty much any country you can think of. I'd start by asking more specific questions about why you want to enter an immersion program in another country, then go from there.
R.

I completely agree with hrhenry.
Having said that, I've studied Spanish in Spain (3), Guatemala, Mexico, Chile, Argentina (3) and Peru just because I love in-country immersion programs. One of my favorites was in Cusco Peru. The mountains are amazing (near Machu Picchu) the people are friendly and speak a slower clearer Spanish and language classes are relatively inexpensive. I paid $8/hour (Oct 2009) for private instruction. The little school I went to had some of the best language instruction I've seen anywhere. If you are interested I can send you the name. But again where you go should first depend on your goals and interests.
