Some people have interesting definitions of the word "study". |
|

Change the word "study" to "learn" and it makes sense.

Or maybe "practice" is a better word?
I have seen language learning likened to a musical instrument. In theory, you would keep practicing and playing it for the rest of your life- but there comes a point where you would be able to play a tune competently.

You probably didn't mean this the way I read it, but I had to LOL...sometimes I *do* wonder if my time is "wasted"
on my kids, LOL, but not very often...

OK, if people didn't have children then then there would be no one around to compile dictionaries and pay my pension so the word "waste" may be a little harsh. Bringing up kids is just not one of my favorite activities, and that saves me a lot of time.

Instead of considering it frightening to "have to" spend 10 minutes a day for the rest of your life, how about considering it a hobby you can enjoy as you please for the rest of your life? 10 minutes a day is not a requirement. 1 hour every 2nd or 3rd day whenever you feel like it is just as valuable. And skipping the odd week is not like taking a block from the bottom of a tower; it will have little effect.
I'm 36 and I already know what I'm going to do when I retire: I'm going to learn more languages! It involves reading, watching tv, movies, listening to music, meeting people, learning about people, life and different cultures, and visiting other countries. What more could you want out of life?

Learning languages is a side effect for me. They are means to get something else. It is usually some content I am looking for.

I find time for languages most nights, and during holidays (when not at uni) I use the daytime and keep a log of what i've done.
