For a long time I thought English was the only language that pronounces the R that way.
But maybe it's not as unique as it seems? Do you know of any others?

(Dutch kind of has it too, in some accents, but the Dutch R is something of a buffet with
different variants, you'll hear the same person use different Rs in a single sentence.)

Just a suggestion for links: why not use the thread title as text instead of simple anchors like 'here'?. You have bothered to locate the other threads anyway, so it would be even more useful. Example:

See "Do any other languages use an English R?" and "American English "R" sound".

Edit: Add this response to Eric's response.

Of course. Hard work pays off in the long term; laziness always pays off NOW :)

OK, just another suggestion (these are not intended as a criticism or something - just trying to help): with several tabs open I can copy a tab URL to the clipboard and still have the title displayed so I can type it without copy&paste. Obviously we know what these 'here' links are about, but the titles help to better identify the linked threads beforehand.

Because once you open up the link interface you can only paste one time, and I'm too lazy to write down the thread titles and type them in manually when it is obvious what those "here" threads are about.
