I use one Polish book, but it's not very good.

I was bored and browsing Youtube the other day, and came across one of Moses McCormick's videos about Teach Yourself books. He raves about TY Hindi! That's got to mean something considering the amount of language books he must have used. He likes Tuttle's 'Spoken World' too.

There are a bunch of Hindi storybooks with CD available in India called "Karadi Tales"
which are very well produced. It was already mentioned, but if you use TY Hindi, you will really benefit from the podcasts covering vocabulary which follow the TY Hindi chapters. I just finished the 6-week challenge learning Hindi.
I will reiterate that I found Spoken and Written Hindi excellent ( even though I only made it through Chapter 10 in 6 weeks ). I also used Teach Yourself Beginner's Hindi by Rupert Snell and, honestly, I think it is the best beginner's Hindi book I have seen. It goes a bit slower than the Teach Yourself Hindi course and the explanations are outstanding. I was really surprised by TYBH. You can learn a great deal of Hindi just using this book. I tried Assimil Le Hindi sans Peine and was good through Lesson 10. Then it just took off too fast for me. It didn't help that I don't speak French very well! I plan to re-attack this once I get through the full Spoken and Written Hindi since I wont need to translate the grammatical explanations as thoroughly. 3 persons have voted this message useful | |||

I'm new around here, but what is "the 6 week challenge" so many people refer to? I can guess what it is in general, but the way people refer to it, it seems like a fixed or developed programme.

6 Week Challenge This explains it pretty well. You challenge yourself to learn as much as you can in 6 weeks and log your progress. The bot helps you "keep score" although it is mainly a challenge for yourself. I think they are doing it again in July. It was an excellent motivator! 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

There's some decent vocabulary lists available here:
CrazyLassi's Hindi Lessons Scroll down and look along the left side, and you'll see the links to the word lists. I haven't found many word lists like this online for Hindi, particularly since these ones list the words in devanagari instead of just some butchered latin transliteration. A lot of other sites seem to transcribe all of {द ध ड ढ} as "d", etc, so it's vital to have a proper listing of the devanagari spelling. EDIT: I just found a site called AudioHindi.com that has online audiobooks with text. have you tried Pimsleur Hindi Courses? i have the cd ,wondering if i should dedicate my time on it ? or start with teach yourself basic hindi . i so wish michel thomas had done Michel Thomas for Hindi ::P i come from south India(Chennai) ,where Hindi is not very popular . but i am ashamed that i don't know my national language . i can understand Hindi to extent as i watch lot of Bollywood movies ,but i cannot talk . i want to start with some audio course and then switch on to ASSIMIL ohne muhe ( i just about to finish the Assimil German with ease). till what level does start teach yourself basic hindi cover ?
