I don´t know about you, but in the Brazil almost nobody learns German as second
language, nor Dutch - Though 40% of Brazilian are of German or Dutch descent. Thus, I - Who am Germanophile - think about the existece of xenophobia in languages. Slavic people doesn´t learn Russian. In Poland people did take pride in not learning Russian, but it was during the communism, when Russian classes were obligatory. Now almost everyone understands that speaking major languages, such as English or Russian is an advantage. I don't know the statistics, but I guess there is more proficient Russian speakers in Poland than in, say, Germany. So I wouldn't say that Slavic people don't learn Russian.

I´d have a problem of understanding. But the fact is the existence of evil feelings
about Russia in some Slavic and Germanic People in many Brazilian. Darklight: Your lack of interest is mainly for two reasons: The inexistence of any ethnic unity African people. There exists many languages and races in Africa, and they aren´t known - Beyond to be little groups. If would use one "Lingua Franca", it would be very learned. Brazilians not wanting to learn German or Dutch? African Americans not wanting to learn African languages? Slavs

I've been told that in the years after WWII, Dutch parents actively encouraged their children to fail German in school. ;-)
