Well, I want to learn Swedish. I don't even know what to start with, really. I'll be living in Sweden in a few months, so I'm obviously going to have to stay committed to learning Swedish, and not just do that one-month cultural interest thing so many people seem to do.
I'm a visual learner and mostly learn everything from reading. So I guess I should start with a book or something. Any recommendations? I've checked the other thread and there really isn't stuff for Swedish that could help me. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I'd say you need to listen first and then read what you listened to. Yeah, I've seen that thread. And I'd also like to use free software or whatever else, but if there's nothing free or cheap, I guess I'll have to use the assimil thing. Thanks guys. :D

The Swedish Assimil is really good, probably the best of the current generation, but I think it's only available in French and German (at least
for the full 100 lessons). FSI Swedish is free, and amazingly not nearly as boring as the usual FSI material. It's actually pretty good (http://www.fsi-language-courses.org/Content.php?page=Swedis h). I briefly browsed through Teach Yourself and Colloquial but they didn't seem very interesting or particularly good at all. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

FSI Swedish is free, but it may not be your cup of tea. Linguaphone Swedish is probably very good, but unless you
can find it second hand on Ebay or elsewhere, it's quite expensive. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

assimil swedish is indeed great, i've already completed 37 lessons out of 100, it's the best course you can find.On the other hand, it's old, it dates back to 1986 and thus there are son useless words (e.g: gramophone, i didn't know this word before)
the passive wave will help you to learn much faster the language when you'll be in sweden free resources: -8 sidor radio, speaker speak slowly and clearly -penpals (snailmail or skype) -songs! 1 person has voted this message useful | |||
