In Japanese, お守り (o-mamori)is a lucky charm or talisman of this type. That's the closest I could find, as the Japanese people I've asked say they don't have a word to describe other "lucky" things like someone's lucky pencil, lucky underwear, etc.
The German translation, according to my good friend Leo, would be der Talisman or der Glücksbringer. Of course, my preference lies with the more Germanic-sounding one with the umlauts :) I found the Persian equivalent, تعویذ but cannot find its pronunciation (does anyone know a good resource for this?) Italian - Mateu English - Matthew I'm sure my name exists in another languages, but I cannot say because I don't know exactly how they are spelled. Its origin is Biblical. Edit - my nickname is, in fact, my real name, due to lack of creativity when I chose it. If someone quote this with the version of my name in their language, it would be appreciated. Thanks. I think I've mistaken the Italian version. It's Mateo/Matteo instead of Mateu (written by me) and it's also a Spanish name, if I'm not mistaken again. Plus, Mateusz - Polish Version.
