Hi guys,
I just reorganized the Princeton course. I merged the PDF files into a handful of documents rather than the 200+ PDFs; I also got rid of the all the HTML files and simplified the folder system; and split the course into 4 zip files. One for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd year and Sara Story. As FSI never released a Russian course (similar to the French, Turkish or Mandarin offerings). I was hoping that perhaps the course could be hosted on the FSI website in lieu of the missing FSI materials (with proper crediting of the author and his request). I could host it if you like. I was thinking about making a page to host materials that
can be legally distributed. I've got a collection of linguaphone recordings from the 1950s and earlier that should be in the public domain now (50 years copyright on sound recordings in the UK, I believe). Many other audio materials from before 1961 could also be hosted. We could even make a little project to request copyright holders of some of the really good university-produced materials from the 60s and 70s to release the audio component into the public domain. Some of these materials (audiolingual courses and readers etc.) probably have audio that was never made available beyond the universities language lab. This could only help the sales of their books, if they are still in print. For the audio materials that are in the public domain and are floating round the net, I could clean them up (noise reduction) and give them a home so that others can find them more easily. why did you say that there were no FSI Russian course? Or maybe I did'nt understand well. I am quite finished with the transformation of the FSI Russian course: It needs some polishing ( page breaks of the second half part) but you can have a first look here: http://divers.yojik.eu/FSI-book.pdf Feel free to write to me if you find errors or mistakes. I will finish it very soon: there will be a accentued version and a non accentued version. I'm splitting the audio and will have to make the links between the audio and the text. There will be an html version too but a little later. And the xml docbook source will be published. So you'll be able to make a epub , doc ou whatever you want version. That would be great! My first request would be to clean up the audio mp3 for Assimil's Russian without Toil (1951). The mp3s that I have are not very good quality and at times one cannot here the consonants correctly. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

Ericounet, great work with the FSI Russian FAST course. Looks great so far. I should have been more specific. There is no comprehensive Russian BASIC course with all the recordings available. The Government likely used Modern Russian 1&2 neither of which is public domain like the Princeton course. 1 person has voted this message useful |
