I revised my text and made some modifications along the lines of what was suggested, though I didn't include any concept I don't fully understand yet - such as "пошёл спать" and "мы с Машей." When I get there and feel comfortable with those concepts, I'll use them - it's simply a matter of integrity for me, this being a homework.
This being said, thanks a lot to everyone for the help and the kind words. I'm hoping to be able to follow another course during the summer, a more intensive one, with more advanced concept, and by the same teacher. So by fall, if everything goes well, I should be able to pick up small texts and start building a more thorough active vocabulary.
