How often do you use monolingual dictionaries? How useful are they for you when you learn a language? Which are seen as the best for your target language?

Please, add a monolingual dictionary you know for your target language and help me compile a comprehensive list.
Here next I include some for less commonly taught languages, I have excluded monolingual dictionaries for most commonly taught languages, such as English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, which I am sure most of you will already know:

I read the article and I totally agree with Linas.
I think they can be useful when you already know something of the language. Definitely not for beginners. You can also try monolingual dictionaries for kids or for foreigners, because the explanations are in a simpler language. Whenever I look for a word in it, I can usually understand the meaning after reading the definition.

I believe it's a very good way for a student to acquire more vocabulary in a faster way by reading the definitions of words, he can often gain a better knowledge on expressing himself in different ways (such as defining a word he suddenly can't remember in a conversation). I agree that it's not suitable for beginners, but one can start playing with them at, let's say, an early intermediate level.

Ah! I remember now another monolingual dictionary, this time for Catalan:

Gran Diccionari de la Llengua Catalana de la Enciclopdia Catalana.

Please help me complete the list and add a monolingual dictionary for your target language. Thanks.

I love monolingual dictionaries, especially online ones that are freely accessible on the Internet. Here is a list
of my favorites.

SPANISH
http://www.wordreference.com/es/ (just make sure it's set on
"Español: definición")
Real Academia Española (they also have an app, although I haven't used it
much)

The Apple dictionaries downloadable on my iPhone/iPad are also very good, and then I can look up Spanish
words with one easy click when I'm reading even when I don't have internet access.

POLISH
Wielki słownik języka polskiego
