I love German With Ease, I've done through enough of it to BS my way around and get across what I need to say (I'm on lesson 20) I'll be finished by the end of summer :)

One of the lessons in German Without Toil says that you should spend 20-30 minutes a day. But, lets all be honest here, unless you are a natural born linguist, you have to spend an heck of a lot longer than that to get the best out of Assimil - I'd say at least 30 minutes on one lesson and 30 minutes reviewing previous lessons and going over the previous exercises.

I wouldn't dream of being dishonest.

I spent 20-30 minutes a day using German Without Toil. I began with zero knowledge of German. My starting vocabulary would have been ja and nein and kaput.

I was able to hold simple conversations with German friends in a few weeks. I found that 20-30 minutes a day seemed to be the optimum time. As I got towards the end of the course I found I spent longer on each lesson - often stretching a lesson to two days.

If I stretched a lesson to double the time I didn't accomplish twice as much. I was happy with my progress and didn't find any need for longer lessons.

And, as I have written elsewhere, I would break the lessons up into sessions of 5 to 10 minutes at a time through the day but I would be mentally rehearsing what I had learnt as I walked down the street or carried out tasks that didn't require my concentration.

I worked my way through the Lewis Robbins Italian For Travelers Reinforced Learning method in less than two weeks. He advised no more than 20 minutes and I was able to converse in simple Italian and get around Italy. It gave me a good basis for the language.

I am using the New French With Ease course by Assimil at present and I find it pretty
good.It certainly beats Rosetta Stone anyday.

I was able to take the survey at this page before, but after I voted I was redirected
(without being shown the results) to a page inviting me to create an account, and now I'm
sent to that page whenever I visit this link. Do you know where those of us who have
voted can see the results?

Sure - use these

login : howtolearn
password : htlal

then go to analyze results and you will get a breakdown of the responses

I'm just bumping this to remind people to fill put their favorite (and least favorite) Assimil courses!!

yet another bump!
