I forgot to mention that *facepalm* you can download the media files at
the RevTK forum

all you have to do is unzip the files into the anki media folder. mine is under:
documents/anki/myankiusername/collection.media
but I am on a Mac, I think it also should be in the my documents folder for windows.

also, there is an addon called" Japanese Support" that automatically generates furigana for you. I read, in one of the
threads at RevTK, that there might be a few mistakes with the furigana as well because of that. I never used it
though so I don't know whether or not the mistakes have been fixed in the mean time.

I can't help noticing the all you have to do... just learned this structure in Japanese in my textbook.

暗記のメディアのフォルダにアンジプをすれ ばいいですよ。

On my PC anyway - I'll have to figure out how to get it to synch on my tablet/phone.

you just have to sync with your online account. afterwards you can synch your phone/tablet with the files from your
account. The first time it takes forever to sync because there are quite a few files but afterwards it all should be
done within seconds :)

Any idea where the files are going? I checked my dropbox but just see some media files from the old version of anki...

how do you mean? you more or less "upload" the files to your online account by syncing it and then just download it
from your mobile device there. You have to have an anki account though for it to work. Otherwise, with Apple
products at least you should be able to copy the files via iTunes.

I guess it goes to some Anki server of some kind that they provide for free of charge? That's really nice of them. Previously we needed to use DropBox or something and I am a little surprised they changed that. It's working great though no complaints.

I'm really liking Anki. I might just abandon my Flashcard app I've used for years and years. I still have to learn about anki more but I love the furigana, and the SRS method it uses. And I got the audio working.

That said I'm a little annoyed at the Core 2k/6k Optimized Japanese Vocab deck.. it is putting the hiragana for the kanji on side 1. Grr. But the media works great with it.

I really really like the 1st deck I downloaded with 8k sentences. I'm guessing they go easy to harder? I'm not that far into it and have started seeing some structures and patterns that are new. They're not too hard or anything just new to me.

I'm trying to think of examples off the top of my head.. argh.. well this structure had a lot and stuck pretty well.

私はテレビを見る間子供は遊びていた。

A similar structure we learned last spring in Jap 102 was:

私はテレビを見ながら、子供たちは遊びてい た。

Anyway - I ordered the dictionaries. Great sentences.

A Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar by Seiichi Makino and Michio Tsutsui (Mar 1, 1989)

and

Dictionary of Advanced Japanese Grammar (Japanese Edition) by Seiichi Makino and Michio Tsutsui (Aug 30, 2008)

Weird how there's such a large gap between when each was published.

there are actually a lot to change the layout of the cards.
under cards>edit you can see what the cards look like now and you can change them to your liking.
it seems like a lot of people are using the core sentences and go from kana to kanji, or audio to kanji.
as for me, I am really really bad with vocab and I still haven't gone through RTK yet, about halfway through, so far
now I am sticking to the normal cards, without changing them. however, once I am more familiar with both vocab
and kanji I can see myself changing it to kana > kanji as well.

I figured out how to get rid of the kana.. What's a little disconcerting is that I didn't see a way to disable it. I had to delete it from all the cards. So it's gone, never to be seen again. Which is ok I guess.

*edit*
nope it didn't do what I wanted it to do. Still playing with it.

Isn't there a diffrence between A間(に)B and AながらB? If I recall correctly, the
actions in a ながら happens at the same time whereas B in A間(に)B just occurs when A
is continously going on...

Also, isn't there a book meant to be between the two of those? And don't rely on the
translations without any explanation.

Someone might know the answer to this. A translation to English homework assignment..

部長に、仕事が早くできるようになるために 、何が一番大切かと お聞きしたら、一番大切なのは、ゆっくりで もいいので、熱心に仕事をするようにするこ とだとおっしゃっていました。

The underlined part has me confused. I don't know what the かと refers to.. I'm wondering if it's a typo. He doesn't make many typos on these assignments though. I'm thinking maybe it should be こと? I loosely translated the か as a question marker and と as when. But I haven't seen anything like that before.
