I refer to iknow but I'm really using a rip in my flashcard app of their vocab and sentences. When I did the
kanji drawing I actually drew the kanji on the iPad and the app had a little drawing board for me to draw on. I had stroke order fonts setup so I could check the stroke order but I never have myself a wrong response for that. As a side note.. I'm not able to do the 17 pages a day of potter. I think I'll just time myself to read for an hour and I'm guessing it'll take 2 months to read the book. But I might get motivated on a weekend and get a lot lore done too but as a daily routine it just isn't happening. But I will get some reading in every day. I'm adding tons of vocab to my Midori app. I switched to Midori instead of Japanese since it can understand my written kanji better and I don't always have furigana to type in. For now I'm actually studying a lot of the vocab I'm finding in potter but I make sure I do the core 6k deck 1st. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I just stumbled on an interesting site for learning Japanese. I kinda wonder how they're able to charge for this and use copyrighted material but not my problem. In this sample lesson they're using the first episode from Attack on Titan. I've already learned something I didn't know...
確かにこの壁の中が未来永劫、安全だと信じ きってる人はどうかと思うよ The English translation (which is probably similar to the English sub) is "Indeed, I think people are crazy if they think we'll be safe inside these walls forever." I didn't know this bit which they explain.. 信じきってる is the casual form of 信じきっている whose root form is 信じきる。 信じきってる人 is a person that blindly believes something. This lesson wouldn't be good for a beginner but it's pretty good for an intermediate student who's getting hung up on the slang in anime. rikai-sama wasn't able to figure this one out for me. So I signed up for a subscription. Instead of going for the bulk discount like I always do though I just did the monthly. I'm still a little sore over getting 6 months of Skritter and deciding I didn't even like the study method afterall. If you're curious this site is at http://japanesevideocast.com/videos. I'm glad you like the site. I'm probably going to use it just like you.. something to break the routine. But if I like it I'll use it more. And they really use real anime. Very cool.
I'm going through my Core 6k deck. I got through the 2k and now i'm into the '3k' or whatever. No pictures and I'm thinking I like pictures enough to add them so I'm doing so and it's annoying. I was also thinking I really really missed the not writing the kanji out and I briefly reverted the deck to the old setup where I had to write the kanji except when doing some reviews it meant I had to give a wrong answer to some words I know pretty well but couldn't write the kanji correctly and it didn't take long to realize my reviews would sky rocket. What a conundrum. Maybe I'll redo the 6k core after I get through the recognition first? 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Only SRSing the Core deck has gone by the waste side. I started a new deck using words from a story I'm reading online at a website and I'm going all out making pics to go with the words and mining sentences etc. I guess I was just too bored just doing the Core 6k but I plan to keep at it as I know that's where the vocab for the N2 is to be found.

My Japanese cheat sheets came in the mail today. They cost 27$ or so and I was really hesitant about spending the money since I know a lot of Japanese already but they said they're for N5 to N1 so that includes a lot of new stuff. I just started looking them over and they're really really good. A lot like the grammar hand outs my teacher gave us at my Japanese class except more succinct. And including grammar up to N1 too. Wow. I'm going to sit down and study. It's perfect for me I think. It tells you a grammar term, explains it in very brief English, then gives an example sentence with an English translation. Really easy to understand. And I can at least familiarize myself with pretty much all the grammar I'll need in a brief time. And then review it tomorrow and the day after if I want it to sink in... but also just getting it into my head at all in the first place will make reading a lot more beneficial. Reminds me of how I approached German. And I'm very happy with my German.

Well I'm sort of pumped up to learn grammar now. I'm reading over all the sheets and excited about learning all the new material and it's condensed so you can read it really quickly but I find it also kind of gives me a headache lol. Trying to read all Japanese grammar and rules and stuff in one sitting is crazy. But I'm going to through all of it. If I think anything is missing I'm thinking I might make some more sheets of my own using the Japanese grammar dictionaries I own.. I never bought the advanced one though. If these sheets are pretty inclusive I suppose that won't be a problem since right now I really don't need a thorough understanding of advanced grammar but I would like a clue or a gist so that when I see it in context I can figure it out - while reading. As I look at these sheets I'm seeing a lot of stuff that I've seen plenty in texts but kind of had to just skip or get half the meaning out of what I was reading since I didn't know the grammar behind it. This is going to help reading native text a lot. Even with rikai-sama you need to know your grammar.

I'm trying out a setting on my flashcard app I never thought to use before. It disables showing missed cards in the next round. They just get shown again at the next due date which would basically be the next day. I'm wondering how easy this will make it to get through reviews. Would be great if it speeds it up more and I add more cards to the pool and not get as bored doing reviews. Then again, maybe it'll make me never learn new vocabulary again... A reason why I think this could work well is that I use my app to autoplay vocabulary with a low streak while doing other things.. like chores, driving, and working out.
