If I say えと and あの a lot will that make my Japanese sound better?

They sound a whole lot better than "uuhm" and moments of silence, I guess.

Moments of silence are bad? Hmm. I'm afraid if I start saying them then I'll turn into one or those people who
say えと every other word. I often stop and think and it would probably just come out. Often. I guess I might
as well. I'm probably saying ummm anyway.

*edit*

It's just weird consciously saying umm on purpose.

I used to try using えと to buy time in conversation, but I'd find too often that I'd run out of the と bit before thinking of something better to say! Ummm is so much easier to extend, but doesn't sound very Japanese!

Haikyuu!!

Fairy Tail

Fairy Tail is missing some episodes on Crunchy but you can see the first few and if
you're still interested go check out the missing episodes somewhere else I guess..

I watched the first episode of Fairy Tale and found it quite confusing: constant
references to things that had obviously happened before. Then I realised I'd just
watched the first episode of Season 2 :-) I must remember to pay more attention to
context in the future!

I'll try out the real first episode later on.

I didn't realise that crunchyroll lets you watch for free in SD. That's good for me as
I'm only watching for the language - the pictures are just there to provide a backdrop
and to help me understand, so I don't need HD. The ads cropped up about once at the
beginning and twice during a 24m episode so that's acceptable (probably about the same
as the streaming sites, except the ads on crunchyroll are shorter and, so far, always
identical).

Glad crunchy is working out. Hope you like fairy tail when you get around to watching the 1st episode. About
13 shows in though you'll have to got to a streaming site or netflix because they don't have the license for the
2nd season or something. I think they'll be showing it later but not now. Netflix seems to have grown up
though so you can watch anime with or without subs.

I'm thinking what I'll do after that. I think I'll probably just
casually study when I'm in the mood. Of course, I will
keep watching anime and so I suspect I'll keep getting a little better regardless.

I don't really see myself reading Japanese books in my free time to relax the way I
might with German. But
maybe manga since they're easier. I'm not really sure. It's just weird how I started
this log years ago and now
I'm thinking about ending it.

Do you mean you might stop logging or you might give up Japanese entirely? I know that
I'm willing to watch almost anything in Japanese just for the practice, but I got the
impression that you enjoy manga and anime ... won't you keep those up?

Anyway, surely you'll carry on and take the N1 :-)

I was thinking it might follow the same path that German did. In other words I'd reach a point where I stop
studying and just watch anime for example or read something if I feel like it. But stop consciously trying to
improve Japanese specifically.

However, watching anime last night I think I'm not as close to that level than I was thinking. And Japanese is
different from German. I only use German if I buy a German book. I'm addicted to watching anime almost
everyday. I suspect that is going to make me want to reach a really good level of understanding after all ;(.
