I'm still making Japanese my priority too. Right now, I'm just alternating the two. I do a little Japanese and when I'm getting tired, do a little Spanish. Actually, it's Spanish that is the most tiresome right now, so it's natural that I will have more Japanese anyway.

Lol. I think Japanese is more tiresome. I'm about to sit down and
reada book iin Spanish and that could be addictive. What I'd like though is a program of some sort like rikisama that lets you use native audio for making flashcards... Does that exist for another language besides Japanese? It's really incredible. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Well having a cracked at Spanish. I'm reading crepuscular.. Yeah it's a check book and that's why I never
read it. I think I wouldn't be able to stand the movie but reading the book in a foreign language is far more doable. I'm doing it in Spanish. It's been a while since in read anything in Spanish. I have no idea how to form many of the tenses and moods but I guess in recognize it as I read it just fine. It's a pretty easy read so far. If you're wondering what crepescula is... It's the first in that vampire series that is in all the tabloids all the time (in America anyway). I forget I think crepescula means dawn or something but I need to look it up... I got the book a while ago and I forget. Author is Stephanie Meyer. My Spanish course might be really easy for me just like I feared German would be. I'm reading this book easier than I expected. Ah well. If I could speak Spanish I'd impress everyone at work whereas with japanese or German they'll never even know. So that's good reason to do Spanish o er German.. (my ego). Ah crap. Looking for Spanish Rikai-sama I found www.spanishdict.com. I think it's native audio. Funny how I'm not sure. All the words had this same deep voice whereas with Rikai you had a variety of people's voices doing it. I'm not sure that I want to bother with making native audio flashcards off of it though although it's definitely possible. I just don't know that the quality is that much better than the text to speech of my app.

I got a proper Japanese font going on my android phone without having to switch the whole phone to Japanese language. Man that was a pain. I rooted the phone which wasn't so bad since I was lucky to find a guide that worked for me pretty easily. After that I just kept reading posts from people saying to add an actual Japanese font to the /system/fonts directory and modify some fall back file so that Japanese was used correctly. I went nuts trying to find the system directory and figured out that it was hidden or something so I couldn't just access it via windows file manager. There are posts explaining how to change this that you can find via Google using an android terminal. They tell you what to type. What they tell you to type made no sense to me whatsoever but I tried it and basically got error messages or nothing at all. I saw an app called root explorer in my searches trying to figure out how to alter stuff in the system directory and it did the trick. It's paid only unfortunately. I had to copy the font file to my phone via windows then using root explorer I copied the file to the correct system directory. And then I copied the fallback order file from a post I found via google again using the root file manager. Really a round about way to do something if you're a big noob I'm sure.
All this just because Japanese fonts are broken in Android if your phone isn't set to Japanese. So frustrating. But it's working now. The font I'm using isn't the prettiest kanji font I've seen but it's Japanese so I'll take it. I don't really know what else you can do with a rooted phone aside from the above. I guess you can load roms or something that change the phone. I don't know. I think my root access tinkering is about over now. (thank god!) 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Good to hear that you installed the font successfully. I have an Android phone too and I'm a big noob as well. I think I'd be too scared to root my phone so it's a good thing I'm not learning Japanese. Good for you though, you deserve a treat. Maybe something like this?

Spanish update.
http://www.e-spanyol.hu/en/tests.php Took the 100 question 'almost' beginner test and got 94%. I guess that makes me intermediate? It's weird. I feel like I'm exercising muscles I haven't used in a really long time. I made a vocab list from starting crepúsculo last night. My memory failed me.. it's Twilight. I kept thinking dusk or dawn.. one of those times where I learn a word in a foreign language and it seems to replace the English word that it means instead of adding to my vocabulary. Anyone I'm going to get started on SRSing these words. I guess I'm going to go recognition only for a while. I suppose I'll make a a deck when class starts for producing vocabulary but I'm going to be selective about adding to that deck. I do want to be able to speak Spanish for sure, but I don't need sound like a well read vocabularious person. Just need to be be easily understood and not sound too stupid. *edit* Didn't feel like making a whole new post. I'm going to go for monolingual flashcards for vocab. I've tried this before and never stuck with it. I'm using an old mobipocket reader dictionary I had from years ago. Actually I have two nice Spanish dictionaries on there - Harrap's Spanish Dictionary (English - Spanish and Spanish - English) and VOX Diccionario General de la Lengua Española. I've read accounts that monolingual is the best way to go and gets your brain to really think in the language. I thought it was just neat that i was able to do it at all before but found it took longer so was having the opposite effect. Chances are I'll ditch it again this time too but hopefully not. Would be impressive if in class I can spit out Spanish definitions for the vocab we're learning XD. Probably won't happen though. I was thinking how to do this in Japanese also. I still don't think my Japanese is good enough. But a huge drawback for me is kanji. To say that learning words using the target language is slowing me down in Spanish would mean it's doing it that much more in Japanese thanks to kanji and well the language just being overall more different. *edit* And another edit. On my 5th vocab word I found a definition that I just didn't understand. I could have gone adding more words looking up what I didn't understand but frankly that was too daunting - I switched to English. I'm a wuss.
