I'm trying out the flashcard options that come with Midori (nice dictionary for iPad/iPhone) and
Langenscheidt's Deutsch als Fremdsprache. I haven't tried any built in srs flashcard programs for apps
before as I figured it wouldn't be as robust as a real flashcard app. But I'm liking how easy it is to add cards
to your deck as you browse the dictionary. And getting more info on cards etc is so easy.

I use Midori as well, but for srs I use Anki and Anki Mobile.

As much as I find it interesting to play around with different ways to study... It gets frustrating when I can't
make up my mind. A drawback to midori is that I can't always find an expression in the dictionary so if it's my
SRS then I won't be studying that phrase... I'm not studying a lot of phrases at the moment though. Ah crap. I
think I'll give it 2 weeks and see what I think. Same goes for the German dictionary flashcard (which isn't
SRS at all I don't think).

Well big surprise, I'm back to my SRS iOS app. It's not that I don't like the flashcard app in Midori, it's kind of
that I'm afraid to use an app where I don't have total control over the flashcards setup. I'm still really tempted
by Midori.

Well my weekend -just- started for me. My weekend = Friday/Saturday. I'm slowly getting caught up on my
SRS deck in my Flashcards Deluxe. I got pretty far behind and now there's about 300 due - it was up to
650ish a few days ago. I set it up so that it alternates between side 1/2. I haven't done this before but I like
it. It tests side 1 today and when it's due again it will test side 2 instead. I'm pretty bad about doing several
decks - seems to double the study time so this is better.

I got the workbook in the mail today for my German class. I am still having a big problem of switching myself
to Japanese the day after my German class. My brain doesn't want to turn on Japanese to begin with lol. So
it's hard. But I enjoy the German so I'm gonna stick with the 2 language studying. And it may not be that
German is making it hard for my brain to turn on Japanese, it might be that I'm contrasting my German
speaking ability with my Japanese and well the latter still has a ways to go. No matter if it's turned on or not.

So I go the workbook and flipped through it a little. I saw a word I didn't immediately know in a reading
section - Tauchschein. I looked down at the vocab list (english only) and when I saw Diving License it
immediately clicked what that was and I remembered where I learned tauchen for the 1st time. A student in
my Grundstufe 2 (or whatever the 2nd course up from complete beginner is) at the Goethe Institute in Berlin
was a diving instructor. And I obviously learned the word when he talked about what he did for a living. That
was so long ago. Brings back so many memories. I'm getting so nostalgic over a lot of things German I
study. And I am feeling old - I've been feeling old anyway so that's nothing new. But that was so long ago
that I studied this. The review is a lot of fun. I'm sure Japanese is going to have its own memories too
although if I don't go to Japan then they probably won't be as intense and sweet. I am going to have to get
my butt over there somehow someway.

So right now I'm going to drill some vocab flashcards and try to get those due cards down. I also want to
watch an anime, get a workout in.. then German class starts at 7:30 pm tonight. It's 3:18 pm right now.

I had trouble switching over to Japanese after French class, and my Japanese is definitely stronger than my French. I panicked quite a lot over that, but I was just putting myself under too much pressure. I'm looking forward to see how you learn to handle two languages at once - I could probably learn something from you!

Well I'm grinding Japanese and just enjoying German. But with German floating around in my head it's still having a big impact on my Japanese. I haven't made any German flashcards although I want to. The cards will be all German. I'll use my flashcard app but found I can easily copy and paste the Deutsch als Fremdsprache definitions to the flashcard app. I was really upset when I found that my old Deutsch Als Fremdsprache is incompatible with my Windows 7. I wonder what version of Windows it's for lol. (again.. darn I'm old.. and it's been a while since I studied this language.) What's scary is stuff just comes out of my mouth when I'm speaking German and I'll think crap.. what did I just say? I didn't know I knew that! I hope it's right... (it's almost always right is what scares me).

Just getting back from German class now I'm really motivated to do German. At the end of the class it being after 9 pm and me being exhausted I started just blurting out the answers to everything lol. I usually just answer a few and then sit back and be quiet. I was tired and wanted to leave though. She's spoken German almost the whole time throughout the class (which is why I'm happy to take this class even though it's below my level) but she switched to English to do some sentence diagramming. She wanted to be positive that people understood. Usually I'm interested in everything that comes out of her mouth but when she switched to English and started talking grammar I tuned right out and had to force myself to pay attention at all. I only half succeeded. I wonder what it was like for the rest of the class - if they found it easier or harder to pay attention. To be honest, with a couple of exceptions, I'm shocked that people in the class seem to understand her while she's rambling on in German constantly. If they get it as well as I do then that's freaking incredible. Then again - probably not or she wouldn't have switched to English for this exercise that she thought was so important.

Since I'm making an honest attempt at learning to write words in kanji I'm going to try making stupid images /
stories to go with the words with more than one kanji... This has been suggested to me before but I thought it
was silly for some reason but I'm finding that I don't really remember a lot of words that I already studied last
semester. Don't get me wrong, I can recognize them pretty well but I can't write them on command. This
language is so much work. Stinks!

Last night I downloaded a German ebook. I had no idea what to get and just grabbed the first thing in the
literature section on amazon. I think it's more targeted to women since the main character is a 29 year old
lady who is still single and the plot revolves around her getting married some how or some other. It's a
translation from English I think but I couldn't find the English version for some reason. It's called eine
unerwartete Erbschaft. An unexpected inheritance. It seems she inherited a really nice home in a posh
neighborhood from her aunt. I've only just begun reading last night... She went on a stroll and is apparently
paranoid about her neighbors gossiping about her and not approving of the fact that she's single. She finds
them very nosy (and they are nosy or this would be rather boring lol). Not sure what I'm going to do with the
vocabulary. I kind of want to make flashcards but well what a pain. Maybe I'll just remember stuff without
making flashcards? (Lol yeah right.. No the words I look up don't get repeated so often as that)
