For English Speaker: Germanic or Romance? | ||

For me, German comes more natrual than Spanish. I tried to learn Spanish because my brother speaks it fluently but it just doesn't click for me. German, on the other hand does for the most part. It's still a work in progress. I feel like the case system is somewhat organized which this is good for me. But it is so challeneging trying to remember which endings go with what etc.

Coming from experience, I think they are equally different. I've studied both Spanish and German, and I will say that Spanish grammar is a whole bunch easier than German. I can also say that I'm able to guess 60% of the time, any English word into Spanish with little or no error. A lot of the -tions and verbs are very similar. On the German side though, the vocab is similar, but it's really hard to get direct guesses easily. Ich - I, Mich/Mir - me (similar). Whether one is easier or not, I don't know.
Bottom line, knowing English will help you in either language. English has many Germanic and Romantic aspects to it. 1 person has voted this message useful |
