Otto von Habsburg died today on 04 July 2011. He had the Austrian, Hungarian and German nationality and was the heir of the Emperor of Habsburg. Most of his late life he lived in Bavaria and was elected member of the European Parliament for many years.
About his language skills: "Er beherrschte neben seiner Muttersprache Deutsch auch Ungarisch, Kroatisch, Englisch, Spanisch, Französisch und Latein fließend in Wort und Schrift. Seine Bücher schrieb er daher nicht nur auf Deutsch, sondern auch in Ungarisch und Französisch." English translation: "Besides his native language German he spoke Hungarian, Croatian, English, Spanish, French and Latin fluently in word and writing. Therefore he wrote his books not only in German but also in Hungarian and French." I've always heard--well at least since high school--that the Hapsburgs were nearly all

Every Austrian Prince had to learn German, Hungarian, Czech and Serbo-Croatian. He also
