Assuming the second level of Assimil is set up the same way, would it be okay to continue to do the passive wave
through that while still working through the active wave of the first level? Or will you run into overlap issues? 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

I haven't worked with any second level book except the Chinese (which is divided into vol 1 and 2 - ~100 lessons in total). You should finish the last ~50 lessons actively anyway, and whether you do this separately or by doing lesson 1-49 from vol 2 at the same time (passively), shouldn't matter much.

I was wondering about this some time ago. I finished my passive wave a little while back, and decided not to move onto the second volume.
It seems like there is quite a big jump in difficulty between the two volumes (I am using the Spanish volumes). The advanced level seems to deal with very fine shades of meaning. I decided that it would be best for me to become more comfortable with the level of language in the first volome before moving on. To be honest, I will need to spend a long time with the book even after completing the initial passive / active waves, to reach this point. I am actually glad that my passive wave is over, as it means I can concentrate on just one lesson a day. I found juggling two lessons a day became very challenging towards the end, and would sometimes feel I had completed neither to a satisfactory standard. Opinions on how long to spend with an Assimil course seem to differ widely on this forum. Prof A. advocates spending an hour a day for a year (365 hrs) whereas fanatic seems to actually be able to speak the language after just completing the active / passive waves. I have done the same my self. I find this method quite effective...I actually used three Assimil French courses in a row (with ease, using and business). 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I am curious, from where does everybody buy the second level of Assimil? It seems to me
