It's probably easiest to demonstrate with example sentences. The translations are only a rough guideline.

echt: real.
So echt sahen die Flammen aus... / The flames looked so real ...
Das da unten sind nämlich keine Geister, sondern echte Menschen / The men down there aren't ghosts. They're real people.
He mewed in so lifelike a fashion -- more literally, "that sounded so real".

wirklich: really
Sie hat wirklich wunderbare Bücher. / She has some really wonderful books.
Er hatte wirklich alles eingepackt / He had packed everything. -- here, it's being used for emphasis.

ganz: entirely
... als wäre er mit den Gedanken ganz woanders / ... as if his thoughts were somewhere else entirely.
Some uses can't be translated quite so directly:
du stehst schon eine ganze Weile da draußen. / you've been standing out there for some time."

sehr: very
Oh, das ist bestimmt sehr bequem / I'm sure it must be very comfortable
Sehr lange / A very long time

I actually found a dried-up slice of salami used as a bookmark
Tatsächlich? Wirklich seltsam! / Really? Yes, very strange.

gerade: just
... and she was just holding the lighted match to one of the black wicks ...
When the door of the workshop opened she was just closing her bedroom door behind her.
Es dämmerte gerade erst ... / It was early dawn ...

wohl: actually/used for emphasis - this one doesn't correspond as closely to English
... welche Farbe es wohl hatte ... / ... what color it was ...
Sein Mantel war wohl noch feucht vom Regen / His coat was probably still damp from last night's rain
I'd better go south myself as fast as I can.
Not behind that spiky gate?

These sentences are mined from the lovely book "Inkheart", by Cornelia Funke. I believe this would pass any reasonable test of fair use.
