I may slow down once I hit higher levels, but I imagine Level 2 will go by at a similar speed. New Korean Cards: 3 Scorched Earth Reading: - CNBLUE - I'm Sorry (3 new cards) 적시다 = to wet, moisten, drench, dampen ("내 두 눈을 적신") 잔인하다(殘忍--) = to be brutal, cruel, merciless, cold-blooded, hardhearted, coldhearted, ruthless ("잔인한 너의 한 마디") 쓰디쓰다 = to be very bitter, bitter as bitter can be ("쓰디 쓴 너의 한 마디") Extensive Reading: - 와라!편의점 (read daily) - Twitter (a few visits each week) Active Practice: Posts on CZ's blog and HTLAL Song Memorization: The song that I SE read this week, "CNBLUE - I'm Sorry", is a very likely candidate for my memorization challenge this year. It quickly became my favorite from CNBLUE when it was released last year (with second place going to 직감, which was formerly my group favorite), however the main reason I'm considering it for memorization is that I need more than one male vocal song in my repertoire. Currently the only male vocal song I have memorized so far is "조용필 - 여행을 떠나요". You're really doing well! I'm impressed by your dedication!
I noticed that you still haven't found your "hook" in Spanish. I can recommend some TV shows that I really enjoyed on DramaFever if you're interested in series! They're all from Spain, since that's the Spanish that I'm learning, and they all have pretty high production value. I really enjoy Drama Fever- they have great shows, for free, with English subtitles that you can turn on or off. In the perfect world, they'd also have Spanish subtitles, but you can't have everything! I don't know if you like historical dramas, but both my husband and I *love* Isabel, about Queen Isabella of Spain: isabel The actors are all very good, and the costumes and settings are amazing! We can't wait until season 3. I also enjoyed Desaparecida (a crime drama) and La Fuga (a futuristic dystopian prison break story), even though I really didn't like the ending of La Fuga. Still, lots of fun to watch! Desaparecida La Fuga While I haven't watched it yet, next on my list is Aguila Rojo, another historical story set in the 1600s (which apparently also has ninjas, or something like that). Thanks. I'm definitely making faster progress toward my Spanish goals than I am my
Korean goals this year (which is fine with me since my Korean is much farther along anyway). The "find a hook" goal is a bit of a vague goal anyway, so I'm not sure what will actually trigger me to set that over to "DONE" status. In reality, I probably need a few good hooks embedded to make sure I stay engaged with the language in the future like has happened with Korean (where I've gotten hooked multiple times from both the music and TV angles). I downloaded season 1 of Isabel a while back when I saw a few logs here talking about it but haven't started in on it yet. Thanks for the other recommendations; I'll keep those in mind as well. Most of my watching in Spanish so far (other than educational items like Destinos) has been Buffy but I only got through season one so far then kind of stalled there (but I think that's mostly due to not watching as much TV in any language lately since I've been slacking on Korean TV as well). I'd probably consider the Buffy/Angel series to be *a* hook for Spanish, but not really a good enough one as it would be very easy to fail over to watching that series in English again. I do need to get myself hooked on a series that is originally in Spanish, so reverting to English is simply not an option (like I've done with several Korean variety TV series). I also recently subscribed to 2 years of People en español, so perhaps reading that will introduce me to some previously unfamiliar music artists, movies, and TV series that will catch my attention enough to result in some new hooks. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

The main reason I did this is that it allows you to view the comics on a single page, thus I can put the English and Spanish versions on the same screen and compare them more easily. Granted, I could just shuffle browser windows around but this is much simpler and at under $1/mo it's not exactly expensive. (Unfortunately, the only English Dilbert they have is Dilbert Classics, so I still have to use dilbert.com for the English version of that comic.) I like having this goal, so I definitely don't want to drop it, but I need to start it earlier in the week. There is rarely a valid excuse for me to be unable to post at least one thing in each language on the Sunday that starts the week (if not both posts in each language that day). I just went to organize my Twitter feed into lists and found that Twitter's list management
is horribly inefficient. Fortunately I found a site that does a massively better job: http://twitlistmanager.com/ The site doesn't seem to display unicode correctly (so my 한국어 list name showed as boxes rather than text), but it still updated the lists correctly, so apparently the issue is visual only. Doing this also made me realize how lopsided my current feed is: Total followed = 197 한국어 list = 187 español list = 7 Despite this the sheer number of tweets from "MUY Interesante" (thanks to Stelle for that account recommendation) seems to offset that imbalance surprisingly well when viewing the feed as a whole. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

(usually stated as an addition to sth else you do with English (speak, learn, etc.)) - V+기만 하다 = to only V "듣기만 했어요." = "I only listened (and didn't talk)."; "보기만 할 거예요." = "I will only look (and not touch)." (NOTE: N+하다 verbs use N도/N만 하다 instead as they are already in noun form and thus don't need the V+기 gerund conversion. Example: 공부하다 > 공부도 하다 or 공부만 하다.) I'm surprised I had never come across these two forms before in my studies, but I honestly can't recall ever learning them. In fact I wonder how many times I've seen V+기 도 하다 when reading and just misread it as "to plan to V" (V+기로 하다) instead. (Granted it is not difficult to decipher the meaning of both of these since the V+기 gerund form is very familiar to me, but I had never actually learned them as grammar constructions. (There were a few more words that were new to me as well, but I skipped adding them to Anki for varying reasons.) When I picked the various playlists, 121 was the total of the playlists I finally picked and I felt that number was close enough rather than continuing to shuffle until I hit exactly 120. As a longer term goal, I'd really like to watch *all* of their existing videos then I can just continue to watch new ones here and there as they are released.
